Fathom Strategic Communications is an Anchorage-based, full-service strategic communications and consulting firm specializing in government affairs, advocacy, public relations, crisis communications, marketing, policy analysis, community outreach and development, political campaigns and strategy.  Fathom is owned and operated by senior political communications strategist Matt Shuckerow, who has served at nearly every level of political communications and strategy across local, state and federal government over the past 15 years.

Founded on the belief that effective communication is the key to success in today's fast-paced business and political environment, Fathom Strategic Communications and its team members have quickly become a respected name in navigating complex communications challenges.

Meet the Team

Matt Shuckerow • Founder and Principle

Matt Shuckerow is the Founder and Managing Principle of Fathom Strategic Communication. He has over 15 years of experience managing high-level media and communications operations for both clients, government officials and political campaigns.

His unique background includes work as the Press Secretary for U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Director of Communications for the late Alaska Congressman Don Young (R-AK), Spokesman and Deputy Communications Director for U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Spokesman and Press Secretary for Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy (R-AK), Campaign Manager for U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan's 2020 re-election bid, former Communication Consultant for Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson, Media Production Consultant for Governor Dunleavy's 2022 re-election campaign, Advertising and Media Consultant for Senator Lisa Murkowski’s 2022 re-election, and Spokesman for the 2022 “Defend Our Constitution – No on 1” ballot question. Today, Shuckerow dedicates his time working on behalf of clients from a wide range of industries, including government, elected officials, NGOs, non-profits, small businesses, trade associations, political campaigns, and Fortune Top 100 companies.

Shuckerow is a lifelong Alaskan currently living in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born in Kodiak, AK into a fishing family, and spent his college years commercial fishing for salmon in Prince William Sound. Shuckerow spent nearly a decade working in Washington, D.C. for Alaska’s congressional delegation before returning home to Alaska in late 2018. He studied Journalism and Public Relations at the University of Nevada, Reno and considers himself an avid fisherman and sportsman.

Lauren Giliam • Senior Director

Lauren Giliam currently serves as a Senior Director at Fathom Strategic Communications where she manages client projects from inception to delivery. Prior to joining Fathom, Lauren served for over three years as Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy's Deputy Press Secretary before taking on the role of Deputy Director of Boards and Commissions. Lauren's previous experience also includes nearly five years in the Alaska State Legislature serving under former Senate Rules Committee Chair Lesil McGuire (R­-Anchorage), former Senate President Charlie Huggins (R-Wasilla) and Senator Natasha von Imhof (R-Anchorage). Raised in Anchorage, Lauren received her BA in Political Science from the University of Alaska Anchorage and currently enjoys embarking on Alaskan adventures with her husband and daughter.

David VanTuyl • Creative Director

David VanTuyl currently serves as the Creative Director at Fathom Strategic Communications. He is a talented creative professional with over 15 years of experience in video production, design, and creative services. Born and raised in Alaska, David has worked on a wide range of projects throughout his career ­– from small business marketing to high-profile political campaigns. In 2020, he served as Creative Director for U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan's re-election campaign, helping shape the Senator's message and create engaging content for voters. David is skilled digital storyteller who understands how to use visuals and narrative to capture the attention of audiences and convey complex ideas in a compelling way. David was an integral part of Fathom's Advertising and Production team who worked on both Senator Lisa Murkowski and Governor Mike Dunleavy's 2022 re-election campaigns.
